Margaret Tobin Centre, SA
Gerflor Australia was proud to contribute to the expansion of the Margaret Tobin Centre at Flinders Medical Centre, a significant mental health infrastructure project designed to enhance psychiatric care services in South Australia. The project delivered a purpose-built 12-bed Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and new admission facilities, creating a modern, secure and therapeutic environment that supports both patient wellbeing and clinical excellence.
The facility was carefully designed around contemporary mental health principles, incorporating private ensuite bedrooms, shared living and dining spaces, landscaped courtyards, abundant natural light and low-stimulus design features to create a calming, recovery-focused environment. Dedicated counselling, interview and family engagement spaces further support therapeutic outcomes, while centralised staff areas and enhanced visibility improve safety and operational efficiency throughout the unit.
To meet the demanding performance requirements of a healthcare and mental health setting, Gerflor supplied an integrated flooring and wall protection solution. These products delivered a combination of durability, hygiene, safety and design flexibility across patient, clinical and support areas. The flooring and wall finishes were selected to support infection control protocols, withstand intense daily traffic and maintenance regimes and contribute to a welcoming, non-institutional aesthetic that aligns with the project’s therapeutic design objectives.
