Located on a steeply sloping site along Ivanhoe’s iconic Boulevard, Ivanhoe Grammar School’s Sports & Aquatic Centre is a world-class sporting & education facility that manages a complex brief within strict planning controls and a sensitive residential & landscape context.

The design saw the courts drop below ground level, stacking them on top of one another, with additional rooftop courts to activate the roof and open up views from within the campus across the Yarra River and the city beyond. This visually connects the building with the main school oval and maximises land value with active student learning and recreation spaces.

Gerflor’s extensive ranges of sports flooring solutions were used throughout the project, contributing to the construction of multiple basketball and netball courts, as well as weights and fitness rooms. The Connor® Sports surface installed is the preferred hardwood sports flooring for over a dozen NBA and WNBA teams.

These high-performance sports surfaces cater to a wide range of athletic programs and recreational activities, supporting the school’s commitment to student development and wellbeing.

Ivanhoe Grammar Principal Gerard Foley said that the Sports & Aquatic Centre is a hub for sport and physical education learning across the School, highlighting the importance of physical activity to an individual’s wellbeing.
